How to Make a Wi-Fi QR Code Sign

By Qrenzo · 4 min read ·

Guests ask for the Wi-Fi password all the time. A QR code sign answers the question before it is asked: they scan with their camera and join the network, with no typing.

What you need

  • Your exact network name (SSID).
  • Your Wi-Fi password.
  • The security type, usually WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 on modern routers.

Make the sign in three steps

  1. Open the Wi-Fi QR code generator and enter the network name, security type and password.
  2. Choose a flyer design, add your logo and brand color.
  3. Download the PDF and print it at 100% size.

The password is stored inside the QR code only. It is not printed on the flyer, and it is never uploaded because the code is created in your browser.

Where to put it

  • Cafes and restaurants: on the table or at the counter.
  • Holiday rentals: in the welcome folder or on the fridge.
  • Offices and waiting rooms: at reception.
  • Events and co-working spaces: at the entrance and on desks.

Security tips

If it will not connect

  • Check the network name and password for capital letters and typos.
  • Tick Hidden network if your network name is not broadcast.
  • Test with a current iPhone or Android camera. Older phones may need a scanner app.
  • Make the code bigger. See what size a QR code should be.

Make the sign easy to notice

Add a short instruction such as “Scan to join our Wi-Fi” and put the sign at eye level where people already pause: the counter, the table or the reception desk. A framed card on every table in a cafe usually works better than one large poster by the door.

Guest networks and passwords

Most routers let you create a separate guest network. Guests can reach the internet but not your computers, printers or files. Because the password is printed (inside the code) for everyone to use, change it every few months, and print a fresh sign when you do.
