How to Promote Your App With a QR Code
By Qrenzo · 4 min read ·
People rarely type an app name from a poster. A scan takes them straight to the listing where they can tap Install.
Get the store link
- Open your app’s page in the App Store or Google Play.
- Copy the link from the share option or the address bar.
- Paste it into the App Store and Google Play QR code generator.
One code per store
A store link points to one store. If you serve both iPhone and Android users, print two clearly labelled codes, or use a smart link from a service you control and make a website code from it.
Where to place it
- Retail counters and shelf signs.
- Receipts, packaging inserts and loyalty cards.
- Event registration desks and badges.
- Posters and flyers with a clear instruction such as “Scan to download”.
Explain the benefit
Add one line saying what the app does for the customer, such as “Order ahead” or “Collect rewards”. People need a reason to install.
Stay safe
Measure and improve
A static code cannot tell you how many people scanned it. Compare installs before and after a campaign, or use different landing pages per location. Test one flyer in one place first and note what happens.
Common mistakes
- No instruction next to the code, so people do not know what it does.
- Placing the code too high or too small to scan.
- Linking to a store listing that is not available in the visitor’s country.
- Forgetting to test on both iPhone and Android.
Which flyer design works for an app?
Keep the flyer simple: your logo, a short headline such as “Get our app”, one benefit line and the code. The clean modern layout works well for apps because the code stands out. If you serve both iPhone and Android users, make two flyers, or put two labelled codes on one printed sheet.
Check your store listing first
Before you print, open the listing yourself. Make sure the app name, screenshots and description are up to date, and that it can be installed on common phones. A scan that ends at an outdated page wastes the opportunity.
