Google Business Verification Methods Explained

By Qrenzo · 5 min read ·

When you verify your Google Business Profile, Google offers one or more verification methods. Which ones you see depends on your business, your location and your account, so two businesses can have different options. Here is what each method usually involves.

Postcard

Google mails a postcard with a code to the address on your listing. You enter the code in your profile. It is simple but it takes time to arrive, so double-check your address before you request it and do not keep requesting new ones.

Phone or text message

Google sends a code by call or text to the phone number on your listing. Make sure the number is one you can answer, and enter the code exactly as you receive it.

Email

Google sends a code or link to an email address connected to your business. Check your spam folder if you do not see it.

Video

You record a short continuous video showing the outside of your business, signage, your work area and proof that you manage the business. Follow the prompts Google shows and avoid cuts or edits.

Instant verification

In some cases, for example if you have already verified your website with Google, you may be offered instant verification. This is not available to everyone.

What to do if your preferred method is not offered

  • Use whichever method Google shows for your business.
  • Check that your name, address and category are accurate and not stuffed with extra words.
  • Look for a duplicate listing and fix it.
  • Use the help links inside your profile if no option appears.
