How to Test a QR Code Before You Print It
By Qrenzo · 4 min read ·
Printing a batch of flyers with a broken QR code is an expensive and avoidable mistake. Five minutes of testing prevents it.
1. Check the destination first
Open the link in a normal browser, then in a private window. Make sure it loads quickly, looks right on a phone and does not need a login. Qrenzo’s Test QR Code button opens exactly the link your code contains.
2. Scan from the screen
Scan the on-screen preview with a phone camera. This confirms the code itself is correct before any paper is involved.
3. Print one copy and scan it
- Print a single copy at 100% size (Actual size, not Fit to page).
- Scan it with at least two different phones, ideally an iPhone and an Android.
- Try the built-in camera app, not just a scanner app.
4. Test where it will hang
- Tape the printout in the real location and scan at the distance customers will use.
- Check for glare from windows or lamps.
- Try in dim lighting if it is a restaurant or bar.
5. Have someone else try
Ask a friend or colleague who has not seen it before. If they scan it without help, your customers will too. If anything fails, see QR code not scanning? 7 fixes.
A one-minute final checklist
- The link opens the right page, quickly, on a phone.
- The printed code scans on two different phones.
- The size matches your design at 100% scale.
- The code scans at the real viewing distance and lighting.
- Nothing has been placed over the code or its margin.
Keep the proof. If a customer reports a problem later, you can compare the printed copy against the original and see what changed.
