WhatsApp Group Invite Link: Find, Share and Reset
By Qrenzo · 5 min read ·
A WhatsApp group invite link is a web address that starts with chat.whatsapp.com. Anyone who opens it can ask to join the group. Here is how to find it, share it sensibly and reset it if it gets out of hand.
How to find your group invite link
- Open the group chat in WhatsApp.
- Tap the group name at the top to open Group info.
- Choose Invite to group via link.
- Choose Copy link, or use the share option.
You need to be a group admin to see this. WhatsApp changes its menus from time to time, so look for wording like “Invite via link” if the steps differ on your phone.
Share it safely
- Remember that anyone with the link can ask to join.
- Share it only where you are happy for people to see it.
- If your version of WhatsApp offers an option to approve new members, consider turning it on for public groups.
- Avoid posting the link on pages you do not control.
How to reset the link
On the same invite screen there is an option to reset the link. This cancels the old link and makes a new one. Use it if the link has been shared too widely. Remember that a printed QR code for the old link will stop working, so you would need a new code.
Turn the link into a QR code
A QR code makes it easy to join from a poster or flyer. Use the WhatsApp QR code generator and choose Join my WhatsApp group, or follow the steps in how to make a WhatsApp group QR code.
If the link does not work
- The link may have been reset. Copy the new one.
- The person may not have WhatsApp installed or updated.
- You may have copied only part of the link. It should be one single address.
- The group may be at its size limit.
