How to Add a QR Code to Your Business Card
By Qrenzo · 4 min read ·
A QR code can turn a small card into a doorway to everything you cannot fit on it: your portfolio, booking page, WhatsApp number or review link.
What to link
- Your website or a simple page with your services and contact details.
- A WhatsApp chat if customers prefer to message you.
- Your Google review link on the back of the card for happy customers.
Choose one clear action
One code with a short label, such as “Scan to book” or “Scan for my portfolio”, works better than several competing codes on a tiny card.
Size and placement
- Make the code at least about 2 cm by 2 cm so most phones read it at arm’s length.
- Put it on the back, with a margin of blank space around it.
- Use dark code dots on a light background, and avoid gloss over the code.
Use a short link
Shorter links make simpler codes that stay readable at small sizes. If your web address is long, link to a short page on your own domain.
Test a proof first
Before you order a full print run, scan a printed proof with an iPhone and an Android phone. Read how to test a QR code before printing.
A simple layout that works
Put your name, role and main contact details on the front. On the back, place the QR code in the centre or lower corner with a short label above or below it. Leave generous blank space around the code and keep the background light.
Avoid these mistakes
- Making the code too small to scan from a card held in the hand.
- Printing it on a dark or patterned background.
- Linking to a page that is slow, hard to read on a phone or full of pop-ups.
- Using several codes that compete for attention.
If you hand cards to customers in person, a short “Scan to leave a review” or “Scan to book” line tells them exactly what the code is for.
